Victim of viral marketing

I have been semi coveting a Cambridge Satchel for quite a while and Toast had a version on sale earlier this year. But I didn't commit. Then last Friday a friend updated her Facebook feed with a story about how she was spending her evening with a bright yellow Cambridge satchel. And suddenly I was craving one again. I am such an easy target! And it just goes to show how effective viral marketing can be. I guess it really is no different from good old word-by-mouth, but hasn't the number of messages increased with all the social media? Anyhow, I'm not caving in yet. And since they are hand made in the UK they certainly come at a price. But they sure make for nice eye candy.

  1. Aaah! Neu4Bauer was just going on about this bag a few weeks ago, too! Yet somehow I've never even heard of this company in the UK...

I've been wearing bright yellow gloves for the past three winters straight, though, does that put me in the cool kids camp? :)

  2. Aha, the viral marketing is clearly in full force! And yes from my understanding wearing bright yellow is very much in the cool camp, or more so in the front since you've been doing it for years :)

  3. I thnk this is fascinating. As a child the brown ones were the MOST uncool thing you could possibly have in the UK and I can remember absolutely begging my mum NOT to buy me one. Even though they come in such lovely cool colours now, I can't get over the childhood uncool vibe. I haven't seen these marketed in the UK and would be quite interested to see how the marketing campaign overcame the old uncool image.

  4. That is very interesting to hear, I had no idea of their less than cool history. I do suspect that they might have targeted social media, since they have popped up in a lot of blogs lately, possibly blogs in other countries which doesn't have the un hip view of these bags
