I finished the Parfait dress! And it's love all the way. Though I will confess that I was at times a little overwhelmed by the large amount of pattern pieces that the dress consists of. My small corner in the living room went into chaos mode and I regularly had to perform international searches to find all the tiny pieces that got lost in the mess. But the actual assembly of the dress went super smooth, it's a rather easy dress to sew. And I am floored by how well it looks and fits, Sarai of Colette patterns has done an amazing job with this design! And she is just a one-person indie pattern designer, which makes me even more impressed. Every little detail is very well thought out.
Smaller cups. I graded the bodice down to a size 0 since the the pattern is drafted for a c-cup. I am happy with the fit now. It's nice to wear something more fitted for a change. While I'm not exactly curvy, my body goes in and out all over the place and I think that styles like the Parfait dress does my shape a favor. That said I'm too much of a comfort freak to fully embrace the fitted look. But it's nice with a style switch once in a while.
Faux fastening. The original fastening consists of two buttons, of which one is hidden. But since I made the strap a bit too short there was no room for a two button fastening, so just attached the button without making a buttonhole.

Very cute dress, it looks fantastic on you. I like the wardrobe picture, really gives an idea how to change the dress up a bit.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress....I like the middriff section. Very flattering. But what I like to hear most of all is...I'm not the only one that sews in the living room. My sewing room/ craft/ catch all room, is now my fathers room now that he is living with the hubby and I. So needless to say, my machine sits on a table behind out couch against the wall, and my dad made me a cabinet (very nice w/ scroll work) so that I can have some storage and hung it on the wall. But that's neither here nor there...at least I'm still able to create...
ReplyDeleteI love your dress. The cardigan looks great with it and I love your wardrobe picture. You look like a model!!! Could you give more information about the cardigan pattern?
ReplyDeleteThis may be the favorite version of the dress yet that I've seen - too many of the others did things with contrasting fabrics that actually took away from the design of the dress.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great fabric and pattern pairing. So far, this is the best version I've seen in the blog sphere. Maybe it's because I'm in the smaller cup side. Really, I can't imagine that the dress has so many pattern pieces. The design looks pretty simple. Now I'm curious...
ReplyDeleteIt looks impeccable! I have stayed away from these patterns b/c I am the anti-Colette customer (not shapely, two sizes from C-cup in the less shapely direction!) but it's heartening to see how nice it looks on a shape more like mine.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress! And the whole outfit is SO CUTE!!
ReplyDeletesuper cute dress!! and I especially love it with the outfit you have created!! Lovely
ReplyDeleteLovely dress....you look fabulous !
ReplyDeleteLove this! I have two Colette patterns in my queue to sew up, and looks like I may have to add this one to my collection. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've only seen this on larger busted girls so I'm glad to see it's also flattering on smaller girls too. And with the cardi you can wear it as the weather cools :)
ReplyDeleteI love it. The style , the fabric, the whole outfit looks wonderful on you. Nice to hear that the pattern is a winner.
ReplyDeleteTotally cute dress!
ReplyDeleteWow, so many comments! Thank you all for taking the time. I feel incredibly flattered.
ReplyDelete>>Carrie: Yes, you are not alone in the living room! I too am thrilled to hear that not all have a whole sewing room to work from. I feel the same way about the situation, at least I have table from where I can create. I am just grateful that I don't have to work from the kitchen table.
>>Antoinette and Christina: Yes it can work! It needs alteration of course, but the great thing is that the gathers gives an illusion of fuller bust too, so the proportions still look right, even with a smaller bust.
I just found my way to your blog. I like your clothes and wish you all the best for your collection launch :)
ReplyDeleteLove the material and the dress! I really like dress with the cardigan and tights.

This is gorgeous. I wasn't sure from other versions of the dress that I've seen if this would be for me, but yours is so pretty I'm really tempted to give it a go now. I love the fabric choice and it fits you so well!
